festival
Humans
have long adhered to the traditions and customs that make up a historical
background for each country, a tradition rooted in culture and beliefs. One of
these is the celebration of Halloween. Today, on the pretext of celebrating Halloween,
we decided to briefly review the history of this celebration.
Halloween
is an ancient Celtic celebration; The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in what
is now Ireland, England and northern France, celebrated New Year's Day on 1st
November. For them, it was the end of summer and the time of harvest, but it
was the beginning of the colder and darker days of the year, which some saw as
dead. The Celts believed that the day before the New Year, the boundary between
the living and the dead would disappear. So they celebrated the night of
October 31 with the belief that their dead spirits had returned to Earth.
While
many people were having trouble getting through the cold season, the Celts
thought the presence of ghosts would make Celtic clerics and priests better
predict the future. For people who were totally dependent on such thinking,
these predictions - right or wrong - made life more secure and comfortable
during the dark, cold days of winter.
Halloween
is one of the religious celebrations in Western countries, which is held on the
night of 31st October each year and is officially closed in
countries such as the US, Ireland, Scotland and Canada so that all people can
attend. . On this day, people wear weird clothes and children knock on doors to
collect nuts and chocolate.
The
history of this celebration goes back to 2,000 years ago. The night, believed
to be Holy Night Monks, is rooted in the rituals of the British Isles,
including Ireland. It is a religious celebration and has been around since the
ninth century. The day after Halloween is called All Saints' Day, and
Christians celebrate it.
The
monks who instituted the ritual believed that this night a gate would be opened
between the two worlds and that the God of the world of the dead would come to
earth with ghosts, goblins and demons. So this night people are trying to
escape the demon and the goblins by wearing scary costumes and banging on drums
and objects such as boilers and plates and making noise.
The
other custom of this night is to take the empty pumpkin and make it scary for
the mouth and eyes and light a candle inside what is known as a Halloween night
lantern, called Jack the Lantern.
Another
belief of this night is that if anyone sneezes they must be told to “God Bless
You” if not; the devil will conquer his or her soul.
