Islam has given women a respectable and respectful place and position is society. They enjoy all benefits that a good society gives to its members.

Women make up almost half of the population of a country and as important as men to our society and country. We shall fail to make quick progress and march with the time unless our womenfolk take active part in building up the nation. No doubt, they are already doing a great deal. It is, however, necessary to create conditions where they can take greater part in nation building programs and to develop a nation and a country.

The vast majority of women, as men, lives in villages. They give every help to their menfolk who grow corps for us. They play an important and main part in our rural economy. Without their cooperation, the labor of the tillers of land will not be fruitful. The family works together and shoulder to shoulder and enjoys the fruit of its own labor.

Most women who wish to earn for themselves take up the teaching or the medical profession. It is a fact that no one can ignore it that they make better teachers for young children because of their motherly nature. Their gentleness and patience also make them particularly good nurses and doctors.  They bring comfort to the patients in their pain and sorrow.

There are some other professions which women have adopted. They work in banks, offices, ministries…; they do well as telegraph and telephone operators; and even they serve in the Afghanistan International Airlines.

In recent times, lady social workers visiting villages have brought awareness among the village women. They are eagerly learning skills that would add to the family income. They produce cloth and embroidery, sewing and knitting works. Articles made by them are sold in the market and they get their share of the profit.

It is the need of the hour that women should take part in every sphere of life. New industries have provided many jobs for women. They have opportunities to become doctors, engineers, architects, lawyers, designers, technicians, scientists, mechanics and much more and thus contribute and takes part towards national and international development.

In spite of all this, women are still lagging far behind men. Most of the high offices and positions in every sphere of life are held by men but a few by women. However, it is hoped that with better education and more experience women will be able to fill more positions of importance in the national life. A start has been made. It is now up to women to make full use of these opportunities and work for the betterment of society in any role they choose to play or any position they would like to work in.

Women can be good teachers, doctors, engineers, politicians, lawyers and diplomats, and serve not just for their own nation and country but also for the world. At the same time they should be good mothers, good wives, good sisters and good daughters. The nation should be proud of them in all the roles they play in a society and country. They are as much needed inside the house as outside the house. Let us accept the challenge of the changing times without our culture and way of life.
