Diwali is a celebration
of Indians which means light.
Some people believes that Diwali is the festival of lights which means the success of light against dark.
Diwali is a five-day
Hindu festival that runs all over India and dates back to pre-historic times.
The five-day festival,
based on the Indian calendar, begins on the 15th day of Kartika. Since the
calculation of the Indian months is lunar, the Diwali date varies from other
calendars.
In the days before the
celebration, all the houses are clean and tidy and the windows open to welcome
Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
The name Diwali is the
distorted word Deepavali - Dipa means light and Avalai means row and queue -
and generally means a line of light. In fact, the light show at this festival
is one of the most fascinating parts of it. All the houses, from the poorest
huts to the most aristocratic palaces, are lit with orange lanterns called Diya
to congratulate and greet Lakshmi.
The lantern, or Deep,
signifies knowledge, and the illumination of knowledge among the people means
understanding the philosophy of this particular day of the festival and
practicing it in daily life.
Drawings by Elvan Rangoli
(Rangoli, a traditional and beautiful painting that has long been used to
decorate the floors, courtyards, and porches of homes, for greetings to the
Gods. These paintings were painted with powder and painted by women). Arrangements
and fireworks, this festival, which is a message of joy, joy and happiness in
the new year, is a special beauty.
The Diwali festival is
held in a large scale in almost all regions of India and is, in fact, a New
Year's Eve. Diwali is even performed in countries such as Thailand, Trinidad,
Siam and Malaya - with some differences.
